Lamps of Awareness or Pillars of Superstition???

Khooni Jheel Ka Khooni Khel

- Appears to be a title of some sidey hindi novel or some story. But it is a news story being telecast on Star News even as I write it right now. What is disturbing is that this is not the one only one of such stories. There are umpteen number of such stories being telecast EVERY DAY .

A place where 'Jinnat' feast on sweets.

Witch doctor that heals people under influence of ghosts.

Ek nagin, jo badlaa lene ke liye ek bachche ke peechhe padi hai

Idols drinking milk (this topic is almost a cliche now, nevertheless, it does make itself present every now and then)
.
.
.

The list is virtually endless. Almost every news channel telecasts such stories. Have these people forgotten their responsibilities? Or did they ever even thought they are influencing the masses and have some kind of responsibility?? The stories are presented with full conviction of the crew that they are hundred percent true. They can even manage witnesses who testify their claims.

In a country where we are trying to make people more educated and take them away from superstition to a positive scientific outlook, these channels seem to leave no stones unturned to take our population to the same dark ages that was so prevalent a hundred years ago. Today the satellite tv has made inroads to almost every nook and corner of the country. The rural areas where the people are most likely to fall prey to such stuff coz of lack of education.

Why are these channels not spreading positive aspects of life to encourage the population towards development? If there are no news stories to show, why can not they look for stories which tell us about grit, determination and courage of our people? I read about one poor man in a small village in maharashtra. His village was located within hills and the villagers had to take a circuitous route to reach the nearest town which took about 4 hours. This man single handedly, using one hammer and a chisel, carved a 20 feet wide path through the hill. He put 20 long years of his life to this. Undeterred by the locals who dismissed him as a mad man, he continued his toil made a path about 2 km long. He has become a legend there, but I am sure non of the channels would show his story, coz, perhaps, it will not increase their TRP.

What about the places where people have brought down the walls of religious intolerance.

What about small village in Kerala, where the village panchayat showed a leading Cola MNC their way out coz they drained the water bringing the water table down to dangerous levels and polluting the surface water. BTW.. the Supreme Court upheld the decision.

There are so many stories just waiting be told.  Stories that bring hope, stories that defy the limits of human endurance, stories that show us the way... why why why.. why are these not finding a place instead?

Frankly speaking, I have started doubting the mental calibre of all those channel people. I am sure they are illiterates and very low on IQ.

P.S. - Do not argue that its upto the people to watch what they want to and what not to watch. That's a useless argument - in your heart of hearts - you know it.
